This course discusses the various leaves of absences available to employees in K-12 school districts and community college districts. The session focuses on the new parental leave laws in the Education Code and how it coordinates with FMLA, CFRA, Industrial Illness Leave, and Pregnancy Disability Leave.

Learn when parental leave overlaps with FMLA and CFRA and when a school district employee becomes eligible to take FMLA/CFRA and/or parental leaves.

Key course points are:
• Understanding of Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
• Understanding of California Family Rights Act (CFRA).
• Understanding of Education Code relating to parental leave.
• Coordination of education code with state and federal law for employees
